A Review of István Vörös's Article

Or Art and Creation

Quote from the article instead of content

When I think of the relationship between a work and the truth, I think of a poem by Attila József, and I agree with him:

You know this well: the poet never lies,
The real is not enough; through its disguise
Tell us the truth which fills the mind with light
Because, without each other, all is night
.”
(Attila József, Welcome to Thomas Mann, Translated by Vernon Watkins)

Ten years on infinitemath.hu

Kép1

In astronomical time, 10 years is a fraction of a second, although the Sun's light can reach the nearest nine stars in that time.

The design of the first version of my website was changed in 2016, but not only the look and feel, but many structural elements have also changed, for example the English and Hungarian versions are managed by the same content manager. The background, the database, the content manager, and the web server remain the same, with updated versions of course.

“Is there anything we can know for certain? With a certainty that admit not even the shadow of a doubt?” /Leszek Kolakowski, God, the World and our Minds: how can we achieve certainty? – RENÉ DESCARTES/1

I just found on YouTube the lecture2 given by Vilmos Csányi four years ago entitled "Behold, the man", and I am reading his book of the same title.

The idea that "certainty always comes from the functioning of the community" permeates everything Csányi says, and this is what inspired me to write. In this expression, the ethologist refers to the fact that the mental image of individual experience, of personal experience, is conveyed to others through language, but only after a community trial does it become an accepted experience, an experience that is considered certain.

Before I go into the details of the ethologist's world view of his own profession, I will summarise my own views and vocabulary to make my views clear. As I will refer most often to the concepts of information, knowledge and belief, I will first outline my ideas on these.

Contents

  1. Information, knowledge and belief
    1. On information in general
    2. About my approach to information
    3. On knowledge and belief – in my approach
  2. On Csányi's "belief"
  3. Summary

Comments on ÉS’s article1

"Tell me what books you've read several times, I'll tell you who you are", István Vörös wrote, which is obviously an exaggeration, but it can really tell a lot about anybody which books you like to dive into reading several times.

From my Diary, March 7, 2021

Csirmaz RobinsonI went back a bit to non-standard analysis, although I dealt with it years ago and it didn’t seem usable to me.

Abstract

The Lorentz transformation can be modelled on the hyperbolic number plane by multiplication a hyperbolic unit vector. The Galilean transformation can also be described by multiplication a unit vector, but here, of course, it is a multiplication by a parabolic unit vector on the parabolic number plane.

Subjective review

Not only can we learn a lot from the book1 about the predictability of the future, but also about artificial intelligence (AI), such as the fact that it is artificial but artificial in no way meaningful.

What is philosophy?

Konyv Kola k

On the crisis of philosophy

„A philosophical statement may be true, and it may be a valid solution to a problem, but it is true only in relation to a game, a culture or a collective or individual goal. We simply cannot go any further; we have no tools to break down the walls of language and go beyond the set of contingent cultural norms or practical imperatives which shape our thought processes.”
/Leszek Kolakowski, Metaphysical Horror/

My own answer to the question posed in the title is no secret, as I also stated this on the opening page of my website, but it is worth saying a few words about it.

Key contexts

I have not mentioned so far, the trivial relationship of the special relativity modelled with two-element numbers to background independence. This mathematics, like Bolyai’s non-Euclidean geometry, describes the system “from within” and not in an already well-known system, against the background of the Descartes coordinate system.
